PeopleSoft

A bit about PeopleSoft

PeopleSoft was formed in 1987 and followed co-founder Dave Duffield vision to replace mainframe technologies with client-server based software. By 2000, PeopleSoft revolutionised it’s software products by completely redesigning them to be web based applications, usable from web browsers. In 2000, version 8 and the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture (PIA) was launched, with the strap line ‘zero code on the client’ meaning no proprietary software had to be installed on desktops in an installation. Unlike their competitors, who typically re-imagined their client-server applications on to the web, PeopleSoft broke completely new ground with many soon following.

PeopleSoft covered main busness processes around Human Capital Management (HCM); Finance; Supply Chain and Student Administration and represented one of the leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools.

It’s fierce competitor, Oracle, launched a hostile bid around 2004 and succeeded in acquiring the company in 2005. As Dave Duffield walked away from the company he founded, he famously stated that ERP was dead, and set about creating a cloud based, Software as a Service from the ground up. This became Workday.

Our journey with PeopleSoft had started in the mid nineties, but we were fortunate that our client Unilever became one of the earliest adopters of PeopleSoft 8 in the autumn of 2000, and we assisted numerous clients over the next 13 years.
